This unit was purchased as a gift, so I have one to compare it with, poorly made, the upright post is not strong enough to handle a bottle that has a tight fitting cork.The bottom plate is plastic which is glued on, the one I have is screwed on, the plate fell off in shipping. I would not recommend this unit, I sent it back for credit.
I had the same experience as the others. The guide broke within first month. Replacement part not available. It looks great but only works for a very short period of time.
This unit works well pulling corks for awhile. However, don’t expect it to last very long. The gears inside the puller are plastic and the gears will strip rendering the unit useless. It is very attractive but the manufacturing quality is very bad. It is overpriced considering the quality of the unit. I would pay more money to insure you get an opener that will last if it is to be used consistently. The onlt reason I gave it a second star is because it will pull the cork until it breaks.

Heavy metal, probably zinc alloy. The most important part, the quide, is plastic and breaks easily. Then the opener sits in the garage with the aluminum cans to get recycled.
